 ICSSR sponsored Two Days National Seminar on “Role of Internet of things (IoT) in                                                   Promoting Sustainable Economic Growth in India 2047”



SEMINAR REPORT

An ICSSR sponsored Two Days National Seminar on “Role of Internet of things (IoT) in Promoting Sustainable Economic Growth in India 2047” was organized by the Department of Economics, Sri GVG Visalakshi College for Women on 21st & 22nd December 2022. Internet of things (IoT) is the natural evaluation of the internet and has many benefits including boosting global economics, improving public utilization and increasing efficiencies enhancing efficiency in primary, secondary and tertiary sectors to promote sustainable development in India 2047.

   Objectives of the Seminar:

ü  Role of Internet of Things in India’s Economic Growth.

ü  Role of Internet of Things in various sectors.

ü  Challenges in implementing Internet of Things in India.

ü  Futuristic Internet of Things for Sustainable Development in India 2047

The registration began at 9.00 a.m. Dr. M. Radha, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Sri GVG Visalakshi College for Women, Udumalpet welcomed the Chief Guest and the gathering.


In his keynote address, Dr. N.S. Syed Ismail explained the importance of IoT in agriculture and rural development, recent development in agriculture i.e., climate change and security, smart agriculture, IoT applications, trends, automation in irrigation, controlled environment agriculture and current challenges in agriculture. The challenges in agriculture - High disparity of income between agricultural and other ventures, wastage of food in storage as well as from farm to fork, import of vegetable oil, mono culture practices produce fewer nutritional crops, usage of more water, chemicals and fertilizers. and the like. Agriculture induces a heavy impact on the environment. 


The Souvenir of the National Seminar was released by the Chief Guest and received by                 Mrs. S. Kalaiselvi, Principal in-charge.



In Technical Session I, Dr. N. Mani, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Economics, Erode Arts College, Erode explained the need for IoT in environment conservation, benefits of IoT, advantages in application of IoT, IoT and environmental conservation, common IoT devices and equipment used in primary sector. Application of IoT in India like Infosys, Tata consultancy Sky met, and ISRO are in a partnership to develop sensors, The need for data provision and creation smart technology for rich ecosystem in agriculture was also given focus. Smart Farming 4AP developed by AP government in partnership with Melinda Gates foundation. Central govt. has invested significantly in digital information systems for agriculture – e-NAM and I-Kisan.

In Technical Session II, Dr. A. Annadurai explained the role of IoT in secondary sector, the contributions of IoT, its effects on manufacturing, cost reduction, inventory management, reducing machine downtime. Benefits of IoT in manufacturing include waste reduction, energy efficiency, etc. How Data based strategic industry, textile industry, food manufacturing industry, construction industry, and pharmaceuticals industry, chemical industry, energy industry, steal industry, aerospace benefitted was explained by the speaker. He also explained the drawbacks IoT.


Dr.Karthikeyan pointed out why IoT?, History of IoT, the working of IoT, importance of IoT in Education, Medicare system, e-governance, banking, e-commerce transports, and telecom sectors. IoT in smart objects, future career, scope of IoT in India, He also highlighted the top 10 strategic IoT technologies & Trends,- Artificial Intelligence (AI), Social, Legal and Ethical IoT , Infonomics and Data Broking, The Shift from Intelligent Edge to Intelligent Mesh, IoT Governance , Sensor Innovation, Silicon Chip Innovation, New Wireless Networking Technologies for IoT, consumer and enterprise IoT applications, Technology roadmap of IoT.

 



Dr. C. Paramasivan delivered his ideas on “Role of IoT in Economic Growth with respect to Financial Sector”. He explained the top IoT trends in India 2020, the benefits of IoT for business, IoT technology for business, In his talk he explained, the developments of IoT in Financial sector, Applications of IoT in banking and IPI Tech Services.



Dr. Kappa Kondal deliberated on the future–oriented IoT for India’s Sustainable Development in 2047. In his lecture, the growth of IoT, IoT in agricultural sector in soil testing, water control and moisture, wind, weather, sowing of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides used and harvesting were explained. IoT in allied sectors, IoT in manufacturing sector, IoT in service sector, IoT in health care, IoT in Retail sector and Baking were also discussed.



The Challenges in implementing IoT in India was explained by Dr. P.Ravichandran. In the afternoon session, the rapporteurs Dr.K.Pushpavalli, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Economics, Sri Sarada College for Women, Salem. Dr. Nirrmala Satheesh, Assistant Professor of Economics, NGM College, Pollachi and Dr. J. Geethamani, Assistant Professor of Economics, Sri Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Viruthunagar analysed and consolidated the 52 papers presented by the participants from various institutions.
